The University of Indianapolis Center for Aging & Community and the Indiana Department of Health will host a series comprised of 4 sessions on Pressure Injury Prevention and Management for skilled nursing facility professionals. The 4-session series will be offered a total of 10 times in 2023 through 2025. The virtual training sessions are designed specifically to assist long term care facilities set up and implement a pressure injury prevention and management program. The initial training session will provide management education on implementing the pressure injury program to reduce regulatory and litigation citations. The second session will educate licensed nurses how to do a skin risk assessment and develop a skin integrity care plan based on the skin risk assessment. The third session will provide education specific for the nursing assistants and their important role in the prevention and management of pressure injuries. The fourth session will provide licensed nurses education on proper assessment and staging of pressure injuries, topical management of pressure injuries, and how to assess and treat arterial insufficiency, venous insufficiency, peripheral neuropathy, and diabetic wounds, to ensure they are not mistaken for pressure injuries. Each session provides resources and clinical reference guides.
One person from each participating skilled nursing facility should register as the point person.
That person will be the primary point of contact and will receive and distribute the Zoom links and resources to the front-line facility staff. For highest effectiveness, all four parts of the course will be delivered within the same calendar month.
